Commentary:Militants Declare Cease-Fire in Pakistan
Tehrik-e-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud declared an "indefinite" cease-fire. His spokesman Maulvi Mohammed Umar infomed The Associated Press by telephone about the ceasefire.
The Pakistan army spokesman said that they had not receive any formal announcement regarding ceasefire. However, interior minister had indicated in one of his statement that they were ready for talks.
In my opinion, this is a good development. Pakistan government can grab this chance and bring peace in the area. However, State Department signaled that would oppose this agreement.
Pro-government Taiibans belong to Wazir tribe. They are settling their scores with the Baitullah Mehsud’s men. The government is unable to bring peace because of their rivalries.
