Commentary : Pakistan's prime minister broaches Taliban peace

Posted on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 08:23PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | CommentsPost a Comment

Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gillani, says that will negotiate with the Taliban to bring peace in the volatile tribal region. His intention to hold talks with the miliants has disturbed the officials of the Bush Administration.

Taliban has also responded positively. They said they would cooperate with the government to bring peace in the tribal areas.

As a Pakistani , I feel that it is a good development. We can curb the growing the militancy which has affected the whole country. The US should not interfer in this. They should help the new coalition government in Islamabad to bring peace in the region so that US and NATO troops go back home.

Commentary : Pakistan not to play into US hands, says Nawaz

Posted on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 06:35PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments1 Comment

Nawaz Sharf , a partner in Pakistan's new ruling coalition, bluntly told US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher that Pakistan would not play into US hands. He further added that Pakistan would not allow Americans to kill it's people by rockets.

He made it clear to the visiting US officials that now all the decisions would  be taken by parliament.

New York Times' JANE PERLEZ called it a public dressing-down. She said that the relationship between the US and Pakistan would change in the coming days.

I agree with her. But the present Administration is responsible for this mess. They created problems for Musharraf. They pressurized on Mushraff to bring drastic democratic reforms. The US lawmakers unnecessarily criticized Musharaf. Now it looks their actions have backfired. They have installed a hostile government in Islamabad, which is close to Iran.

Local media reports said that Negroponte and Boucher advised Nawaz to soften his stance towards Musharraf. They said that the Administration feels comfortable getting along with him. But he rebuffed their advise and told them that all things will be discussed in the parliament. He further said that they would review Musharraf's eight years policies and redefine their policies on war on terror. Let us see how the US Administration copes with the new situation.

Punjabi Taliban

Posted on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 01:04PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments1 Comment

Cyril Almedia has pointed out a very great threat posing to he western society. In his article “War against Pakistan”, he talks about rogue elements of Punjabi Taliban who have turned against their masters. He tells us about the most well known Punjabi Taliban, Qari Saifullah Akhtar, who was the former Amir of the Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HJI).

He says that HJI has links to Al Qaeda.

What Cyril has pointed could pose a serious problem for the western government in the coming days. Punjabi Muslims have settled in every part of the globe. Punjabi Imams are prayers leaders in the majority of mosques in big cities like London. Media reports also tell us that hey make fiery speeches against western way of life.

European and the US administration should take this threat seriously and keep an eye on the persons who are making anti-western speeches.

The selection of the nominee has caused a rift in the Peoples Party

Posted on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 07:57AM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments1 Comment

Pakistan People’s Party has selected the candidate for the post of prime minister. A PPP leader Nabeel Gabol disclosed this. Although PPP has not disclosed the name of the person, but Times of India reported that PPP's Yousuf Raza Gilani could be the country’s name prime minister.

Voice of America’s Steve Herman reports that the selection of the nominee has caused a rift in the party. Now there are growing signs of an internal crisis in the party. It is said that Zardari has called his teenaged on to avert any rift within the ruling party.

I think that party’s teenaged chairperson will not be able to avert crisis. Media reports say that Makhdoom Amin Fahim, the party's vice-chairman whom Zardari has sidelined could create problems for Zardari. Fahim said that Zardari is procrastinating to name the prime minister.

Commentary : Israel deplores Swiss natural gas deal with Iran

Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 01:45PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | CommentsPost a Comment

Media reports say that Swiss-Iranian natural gas deal has infuriated Israel. It is said that Israel's Foreign Ministry summoned Swiss Ambassador Walter Haffner deplored about this act. The called this unfriendly gesture" to Israel.

The Swiss Ambassador curtly replied that that the deal did not contravene the sanctions against Iran. He further said that Switzerland did not believe the sanctions policy to be effective. He said other Europeans companies are working on similar deals.

In my opinion, this event should open the eyes of the Israeli leaders. Western countries will stop supporting Israel if it starts hurting their economic interests. I once wrote an email to one of my Jewish friend who is a well-known writer that Israel should change its policy towards Arabs and Iran. I feel that in the coming days Western countries will abandon Israel because of their economic interests.

The deal is worth 10 billion euros ($13.32 billion).

Commentary: Sarabjit's wife pins hope on Indian govt

Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 01:19PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments1 Comment

I am glad to hear that Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has differed the hanging of Sarabjit Singh by a month. It is said that he carried out bombing attacks in Pakistan in 1991, which resulted in the deaths of 14 people.

We all know that both India and Pakistani have been implicating each other's citizens in fake charges. Time has come that both governments should release such prisoners after impartial inquiries.

Nawaz Sharif says that dictatorship will soon end in Pakistan

Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 03:16PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments2 Comments

Nawaz Sharif says that dictatorship will soon end in Pakistan. He said that Musharraf’s powers would be clipped in future.

In my opinion, this Punjabi leader should stop giving such statements. The country is passing through a very difficult situation. We cannot afford a confrontation between the presidency and the parliament.

This Saudi agent was himself a dictatorial ruler. His dictatorial behavior was responsible for his downfall twice. Both the leaders of the Pakistan’s two major political parties were able to come in Pakistan after the intercession of their foreign masters. Now they are making empty rhetoric to mislead the people of Pakistan.

Commentary: Conservatives keep grip of Iran parliament in vote

Posted on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 05:39PM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | CommentsPost a Comment

Media reports say that Iran's conservatives will come out as victorious. However, these elections cannot be called free and fair. Many leading reformists were barred from running in the elections to pave the way for conservative's victory.

It is tragic that Iranian Mullahs are repressing their people in the name of Islam and morality. These mullahs have been ruling the country since 1979 and they have failed to improve the lives of Iranians. Young men and women say that their future in the Islamic republic promises only disillusion and despair.

Iranian president had promised in his election campaign that he would improve the lives of poor Iranian people. However, when he came in power, he forgot his promise. I think Iranians are heading for another revolution.

Can Zardari become Pakistan's Prime Minister?

Posted on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 11:17AM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | Comments1 Comment

Fortune favors the fools and corrupts. Last month’s election victory has made Pakistan’s most ostracized figure ASIF Ali Zardari, the  widower of Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's kingmaker.

He  is now leading the party of her wife. Reports are coming out that he wants to become Pakistan’s prime minister himself.

The question is : Can he become prime minister of Pakistan?

In my opinion, he cannot become prime minister of Pakistan.  Pakistan’s law says that parliamentary candidates must be a graduate in order to qualify for electoral office.

Zardari asserted in one of his interviews that he attended London School of Business Studies and received a degree.  His official biography tells that he attended a commercial college called Pedinton School.  This college does not exists in London.

Commentary : Pakistan bomb kills Turk and wounds Americans

Posted on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 06:03AM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | CommentsPost a Comment

A bomb attack on an Italian restaurant on Saturday night resulted in the death of a Turkish woman. Several people have been wounded in this attack including U.S. embassy personnel and a staff member of the British High Commission. U.S. embassy spokeswoman Kay Mayfield confirmed that U.S. embassy personnel were among those wounded.

The Italian restaurant Luna Caprese was crowded with foreigners when this explosion occurred. The restaurant is favorite among foreigners because alcohol is served here.

No one has claimed the responsibility of the attack yet. The incident is not good for Pakistan. Pakistani authorities should try to arrest those who are behind this attack. Otherwise, it will drive diplomats and foreign workers in the capital from Pakistan.

The bomb has also sent a signal to British governments and US who have been constantly interfering the affairs of Pakistan that they should stay out of Pakistani politics in future.

CIA says that they have arrested Bin Laden Translator

Posted on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10:54AM by Registered CommenterMunaeem in | CommentsPost a Comment

An Afghan national and bin Laden follower Rahim has been transferred from CIA custoday to Gitmo. CIA Director Michael V. Hayden describes him as tough and seasoned jihadist. They assert that he was trusted a facilitator and procurement specialist for bin Laden.

It is said that Rahim was captured in Lahore in August by Pakistani operatives.

In my opinion, CIA should not express delight over this incremental progress. These people are very quick in their ability to replace those who are lost.
