Which states in Australia require ROI?

It's a bit tricky to give a definitive answer to "which states require an ROI" because things are always changing in Australian immigration! But here's the general situation as of November 2024:
States that generally require an ROI (Registration of Interest) before you can apply for state nomination:
 * Victoria:  Victoria uses an ROI to gather more information about your skills and experience in addition to your SkillSelect EOI.
 * South Australia:  South Australia also has an ROI process, but it's mainly focused on 491 visa applicants.
 * Tasmania:  Tasmania generally requires an ROI for both 190 and 491 visas.
States that don't usually require a separate ROI:
 * New South Wales: NSW relies mainly on your SkillSelect EOI. However, they have specific pathways with separate applications, like for those living and working in regional NSW.
 * Queensland:  Queensland also primarily uses the SkillSelect EOI.
 * Western Australia:  WA generally works from your SkillSelect EOI.
 * Australian Capital Territory (ACT): ACT has its own points system and ranking process, but it's not called an ROI.
 * Northern Territory (NT):  NT has a straightforward application process without a separate ROI.
Important Notes:
 * Always check the latest requirements: State nomination requirements can change frequently. Always refer to the official state government websites for the most up-to-date information.
 * ROI is in addition to EOI:  Remember that even if a state requires an ROI, you still need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect first.
My Comment:
It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the specific requirements of each state you're interested in. Even if an ROI isn't mandatory, some states might have other preliminary steps or specific forms to complete.  Good luck with your application!
