Combining ezetimibe with atorvastatin can provide significant incremental reductions in LDL-C and triglycerides and increases in HDL-C
. The combination of statins and ezetimibe blocks the synthesis and absorption of cholesterol, thereby cooperatively reducing LDL-C levels. In clinical studies, the combination therapy of ezetimibe and atorvastatin facilitated reaching therapeutic goals in terms of LDL cholesterol among patients with severe hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, combining ezetimibe with statins reduces LDL cholesterol more than either drug alone. Generally, the incidence of adverse reactions is not increased when combining ezetimibe with statins. The combination medication of ezetimibe and atorvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol.
