41k+ Muslims on the UK terror watch list. Is this figure true?

According to a government report, MI5 is aware of more than 43,000 people who pose a potential terrorist threat to the UK, which is almost twice the number of terror suspects previously disclosed

.
However, it is not specified if all of these individuals are Muslims. According to a Daily Mail article, 90% of the 43,000 extremists on MI5's watchlist are Islamist terror suspects

.
The UK's counter-terrorism strategy, called CONTEST, has four strands: prevent, pursue, protect, and prepare. The aim of CONTEST is to reduce the risk to the UK and its citizens and interests overseas from terrorism, so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence
2
.
The UK government has proscribed 78 terrorist groups or organizations under UK law
5
.
The UK police forces work with the UK intelligence community to help protect the public and national security by preventing, deterring, and investigating terrorist activity
6
.
To control these extremists, the UK government has implemented various measures under the CONTEST strategy. The prevent strand aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It includes measures such as challenging extremist ideology, supporting vulnerable individuals, and working with sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalization
2
.
The pursue strand aims to stop terrorist attacks and involves investigating and disrupting terrorist activity. The protect strand aims to improve protective security to stop a terrorist attack. The prepare strand aims to work to minimize the impact of an attack and to recover as quickly as possible
2
.
It is important to note that not all individuals on the watchlist are necessarily terrorists, and being on the watchlist does not necessarily mean that an individual has committed a crime. The watchlist is a tool used by security agencies to monitor individuals who may pose a potential threat to national security
